POSITION SUMMARY:
A Certified School Nurse provides preventive health services to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. Identifies problems and disabilities and provides such services as case finding, health education, referring and care in order to help prevent serious health problems. Supports the education process by working to assure the health of the students and staff.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide emergency care, first aid, and nursing services at school sites in keeping with Arizona State Nurse Practice act as well as state regulations and school policy.
- Responsible for professional, nursing treatment of students, as well as care coordination.
- Responsible for early detection of physical problems, as well as health evaluations.
- Responsible for disease prevention.
- Assists in promoting programs on health-education and immunization.
- Maintains clinical records.
- Coordinates vision, hearing, and health assessment.
- Provides emergency aid to students and school staff.
- Provides support to the staff to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment.
- Referrals to appropriate medical professionals for students in need.
- Ensure supplies and equipment necessary for patient care are ordered and stored.
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- Unencumbered Arizona Registered Nurse license.
- Able to obtain an Arizona IVP (Fingerprint Clearance) Card.
- Principles and practices underlying the special field of school nursing.
- Current trends in nursing and of literature in the fields of school health.
- Have personal communication skills and traits that promote a child friendly
- Organization and administration of other cooperating agencies.
- State and local laws relating to school health and social issues.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- National Certified School Nurse (NCSN) preferred.
- 3 years experience in School Health or pediatric nursing preferred.
- Able to obtain an Arizona IVP (Fingerprint Clearance) Card.
- Salary will be determined by experience and education of the applicant.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work environment involves no physical risks or hazardous conditions
- Work environment involves slight physical risks that require basic safety precautions (safety glasses, lab coats, rubber gloves etc.)
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following detailed safety precautions (such as wearing respirators, handling hazardous materials, and working with industrial machinery.)
