Job Description
TITLE: School Health Aide Substitute

POSITION SUMMARY:
• A school health aide is employed by the school system to assist professional personnel
in their health related tasks. Responsibilities include: caring for injured and ill students,
administering first aid & medications, maintaining records of health room visits.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides support to the staff to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment.
• Provide emergency care, first aid, and nursing services at school sites in keeping with State
regulations and school policy.
• Maintains student health records including immunizations, religious exemptions and medical
exemptions and notifies the District Nurse of any deficiencies.
• Physical Screening including height, weight, vision and hearing.
• Referrals to appropriate medical professionals for students in need.
• Ensure supplies and equipment necessary for patient care are ordered and stored.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
• Have personal communication skills and traits that promote a child friendly atmosphere,
and be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Computer literacy.
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and safety procedures.
• Be able to communicate orally and in writing with students and their families.
• Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for students.
• Student supervision skills.
• Access to and knowledgeable in emergency procedure.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
• High School diploma or equivalent training/experience.
• Must have current CPR and First Aid Training or be trained within the first 90 days of
employment |
